YOUNG ADULT PRODUCTION "THE WIZARD OF OZ"
AUGUST 17 - 19
Dorothy Gale is a young girl living on a Kansas Farm with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. She dreams of escaping her mundane life ("Over The Rainbow") which occurs via a cyclone transporting her to the magical land of Oz. As she journeys along the "Yellow Brick Road", Dorothy discovers friendship with three unlikely characters (Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion) seeking to obtain the things they desire most in life -- brains, courage, and heart. In the end, Glinda, the Good Witch appears and explains that Dorothy has always had the power to return home. All she has to do is close her eyes, tap her heels together three times and repeat to herself, "There's no place like home."
what is a young adult professionals (YAP) production?
Under professional direction, the Young Adults Professional (YAP) productions are designed as an educationally intensive process providing training for young artists honing their craft and theatrical skill sets. Training includes a fully immersive production process from start to finish in which participants receive training from local Houston artists, professional headshots, dramaturgy work and performance opportunities at the George Theater facility. In post production, actors are able to add both intensive training and performance credits to their professional theater resumes. Frequently partnered with a philanthropic purpose for serving the community and youth, YAP productions are meant to develop an appreciation fo the theatre in both audience members and actors alike.
